 New cash protection system "truly intelligent": read an article about OCP in "Security Focus" magazine (South Africa)
Recent statistics from the South Africa Police Service (SAPS) show that the number of cash-in-transit (CIT) heists decreased by 15.4% during 2008, compared with 2007. However, it is not time to celebrate yet. There may be fewer robberies, but these have developed into extremely violent and brutal crimes. In many cases the criminals did not stop, but shifted the focus to bombing ATMs or other similar crimes. Rodger Metelerkamp, the local managing director of Oberthur Technologies, has agreed to answer our questions about the potential role of new technology to address this problem.
